Sad Ending

 Well finally we got a diagnosis on the motorhome. Once they pulled the valve cover off they found, what they call, grooving on the upper cam shaft lobe, I’ll post a pic of it. The Ford Service Center is still recommending a complete new engine block due too unknown possible damage. So we have decided to just drive it back home and have someone local see about fixing it. 

We are extremely bummed about the whole situation. We had a lot of fun & exciting things lined up to see & do. Not to mention a nice visit with our kids and grandkids in Michigan. 
So what’s next. We had decide to go back to Sandy River RV Park (Troutdale) for a week and then up to a RV Campground right along the Columbia River, not far into Washington, for a few days. Since it’s going to be way cooler here than in Palm Desert, kind of a no brainer to say here for a bit more. After that we will slowly start making the drive back home. I will take 3-4 days to get back home, plus we will only tow the mini on the flat roads and disconnect it when going up and over the mountain passes. 
It been a saving grace to be able to stay at Maryann’s family’s house, while we have been waiting on our motorhome. A big Thank You to Ed , Judy & Thomas, for opening up their home for us to stay. 
I have a couple local hikes planned in the next few days 
Tomorrow there is a high probability of some rain in the area so that will be nice. Other than that, just going to take it easy and enjoy the cooler weather.

Day5, Troutdale OR

 Today we made it to Troutdale OR, Sandy River RV Resort, just off Hwy 84, 20 miles East of Portland. We have a wonderful back-in spot, over looking the Sandy River with lots of shade trees. We stated the day with our coffee and a special treat, Portuguese Nata’s, Custards tarts. They are so delicious, we had them on our recent walk in Portugal. I found these at Trader Joe’s just before we left on our trip. I highly recommend trying them if you ever can find them. Once again , all packed up’s and our first stop of the day is gas for the motorhome, are you sensing a trend😂. On the road by 9:15, heading up I-5N, passing through Eugene, Corvallis, Salem & finally Portland before reach Troutdale. Drive was fairly smooth, except for stop & go traffic as we got closer to Portland. We actually took the 205 that goes around downtown Portland and connects to the 84. Day2, A Bumpy Ride

 Hello & welcome to Randy & Maryann’s RV Summer trip. Today’s title A Bumpy Ride. If anyone has driven the I-5 through the Central Valley to well past Sacramento might understand what I mean. It is a pothole bumpy drive, and driving in a stiff suspension motorhome even makes it worse. The day started with a nice cool morning, having our morning coffee and sharing a Cinnabon cinnamon roll, tasty. With everything stowed away we are ready to go. 1st stop, gas to fill up the motorhome and by 8:30 am we are on our way. Traffic was really a non factor today and I was even able to pull out and pass a few big rigs, which rarely happens. I normally keep my towing speed between 60-65 mph. Not much to see, but farmer’s  fields as far as the eye can see, also saw a couple Hawks perched on power line poles. Day3, We Enter Oregon

 Daily events of Randy & Maryann’s summer roadtrip. Our day started like most days, up early, had our morning coffee, only 1 cup on travel days and shared another cinnamon roll. Since we are only staying 1 night at the beginning of our trip, breakdown of the motorhome only takes a few minutes. Disconnect water, power, pull in the slides and bring up the leveling jacks takes about 15 min. Only thing that is left is to re-hook up our tow vehicle.  By 8:00 am we are on our way, 1st stop, again it’s gas for the motorhome. Today’s route keeps us going North on I-5. Passing through Redding, Lake Shasta, Dunsmuir, Weed and finally reaching the California/Oregon boarder. Then on to Ashland, Medford, Grants Pass and finally reaching our destination for the day Canyonville OR, Seven Feathers Casino Resort RV Park.
