Troutdale, Day1-3

It’s Mon. July 14th. Enjoying our nice cool morning w/ our freshly made espresso coffee, watching the Sandy River flow by listing to the chirping of the birds. Once in a while we can hear an Eagle in the distance squawking. Maryann saw it one morning sitting up in a tree. It’s been a nice relaxing few days, just chillin basically.

Last yr, when we were here, it was go go go. Drove up to Mount Hood Timberline Lodge, went to multiple  waterfalls, did the Portland waterfront walk around..etc.. but this time we are just taking it easy.

We did take a drive up to Trout Lake, about hour & 1/2 drive. Trout Lake is a very small town, up in the mountains, that Maryann’s mother was born and grew up in. It’s kind of funny they call it Trout Lake, but there is actually no lake at all. She grew up on a small dairy farm. We think we found the area that the farm may have been at, but everything has changed so much that it’s hard to tell. But we did find a street named Wood, and that was Maryann’s mother’s maiden name. Plus we talked to a lady in the little general store, who has grown up in Trout Lake, and she remembered a family with the last name of Wood, so who knows maybe they were related.

On the way up to Trout Lake we stopped in a little town, along the Columbia River, Stevenson, and wouldn’t you know but they were have a Farmers Market, so of course we had to stop. Of course I had to buy the little Marionberry pie and jam, I am a sucker for Marionberry anything😂😂. On the way up to Trout Lake the car in front of us stopped, we stopped,  and here comes a brown bear rambling down the road toward us, then darts across the the road up into the woods. 🐻 sighting ✔️

The weather has been hot up here in the Portland area, reaching close to 100. The Sandy River has been full of people just trying to cool off in the river and multiple people floating down the river on basically anything that will float. Today’s weather is much nicer, mid 80’s today.

Yesterday, we meet Maryann’ brother & sister -in-law for lunch at the Spaghetti Factory, then we went to see her niece’s son play basketball.

Update on the motorhome. Nobody we called would come out to diagnose the motorhome directly. I was told that it needs to be hooked to a monitor to see what the actual problem might be. Tomorrow we have an appointment to have it diagnosed at a local RV shop. Hopefully they can give us an answer on engine clicking noise. Unfortunately we had to cancel a couple of our up RV campground sites up in the Seattle area because we just don’t know the uncertainty of the motorhome. Hopefully it will be nothing major and we will be back on the road on Thursday, our normal departure day.

Thanks for reading.
