Day4, Non Travel Day
Today might have not been a travel day but it was a day to search for old covered bridges.
The day started like most days, up early and enjoying our morning cup of coffee, but today was a little different. We finally got to use & enjoy our new mini Nespresso coffee machine. I made us each a Cafe con Leche, which is basically a Cappuccino, but in Spain they are called Cafe con Leche. I even frothed up the milk with my new frothier wand. Glamping in style!!!
We heard about a place in Canyonville for a good breakfast. When we got there the place was closed and someone popped there head out the door and informed us they are closed on Wed & Thur, bummer. So went on down the road and stopped at a place that we had passed on our way into town, called Heaven on Earth Restaurant, kind of out in the middle of know where on I-5. We both ordered omelettes, ham & cheese for me & spinach for Maryann, along with fried potato’s & a biscuit. Actually food was pretty good but a little overpriced.
While waiting for our food I was looking at my phone for possible things to see, and I found, only a few miles away, an old covered bridge, then further investigating two more popped up, so we had a quest.
The first covered bridge, Wolf Creek OR, was called Grave Creek Bridge, 1920, real nice looking bridge and in still good working order. While in Wolf Creek, we found the old Wolf Creek Inn, a historical building dating back to the covered wagon days. Unfortunately it was closed.
Next we stopped at a small farmers market, with only 10-12 vendors. Did the quick walk up and down and look. Maryann did actually stop and talk to a couple of the vendors about what they were selling.
Back on the road to find the other covered bridges. Next stop takes us to Myrtle Creek OR. We find the second bridge, Myrtle Creek Bridge, 1930, but it is a walking bridge now, no actual roads lead to or from it. Doing some research, it was moved to its current site in the 70’s and is more of a show piece than anything, but it is still pretty to look at. The Third covered bridge was only a short distances from the second bridge. Neal Lane Bridge, 1939. A small bridge, still in use, and it looks like it has been taken good care of.
So with our covered bridge quest accomplish’d we decided to drive into Roseburg OR, which was only 11 miles away. We walked around the old town a bit then headed over to McMenamins pub & eatery. We have been there before and it’s a fun atmosphere. We ordered veggie and sliders appetizers. I went with a beer flight & Maryann had the Blackberry Cider drink. A nice way to spend the afternoon.
We got back to the motorhome around 3pm, and just been relaxing, doing a little reading, took a nap, just basically chillin. Tomorrow we are back on the road heading to Troutdale, just outside Portland for a week long stay.
Thanks for reading and the adventure continues
